Tips & Pointers

A ticking or clicking noise when the meter is plugged in or the power button is pressed usually means the internal power supply has encountered an abnormal condition on one of the power rails and must be serviced.
If the meter turns on briefly then immediately shuts off may indicate the battery is bad and must be replaced. Disconnect the battery and try powering the meter from the charger alone. If it turns on, then the battery is likely at fault. If it still shuts off, further diagnosis and repair is necessary.
If the waveform will not hold steady or trigger on an edge, or if the unit will not read ohms, resistance, or capacitance, then the internal voltage reference generator and channel conditioning and comtrol circuit is not functioning properly and must be serviced.
